Why West Moon?

Why a polar bear?

The name of this web site is West Moon Kids because it is the online home of a store called West of the Moon...

West of the Moon is named after an old fairy tale from Norway called East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon, The story involves a poor but pretty girl and a prince who is under a spell and must spend his daylight hours in the shape of a big white polar bear.

The story was first published in Norse in 1844 in a collection compiled by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe entitled Norske Folkeeventyr. It was first translated into English in 1859 by Sir George Webbe Dasent, and later by Gudrun Thorne-Thomsen.
